The classes
Pilates
Mat Pilates: slow, precise movements that build strength from the middle out. Expect plenty of core work, attention to posture and a lot of quiet concentration. Good for backs, desk-bound shoulders and anyone getting back into exercise.
Yoga
Movement linked to the breath, from gentle flowing sequences to longer holds that open the hips, hamstrings and chest. Each class ends with a few minutes of stillness before you head off into the day.
Online
A live class you join from home, with the same teaching as the studio. All you need is a mat, a little floor space and a screen you can see from the floor.
Where we meet
In-person classes are at GameFace, 4 Russell Street, Wakefield WF1 4QS. Come in, find a space and roll your mat out.
Online classes are taught live, so you get the same class at the same time, without leaving the house.
Questions people ask
I have never done yoga or Pilates. Can I come?
Yes. Every class has options for every pose, so you can work at your own level from the very first session. Tell us it is your first time when you arrive and we will keep an eye out for you.
What is the difference between yoga and Pilates?
Both are low-impact and both use the breath. Pilates concentrates on core strength, control and posture, with small precise movements. Yoga is broader: flowing sequences, stretches and longer holds, with relaxation at the end. Plenty of people do both. Our journal post on choosing goes into more detail.
What should I bring?
A yoga mat, a bottle of water and clothes you can move and stretch in. Most people go barefoot. A small towel or a cushion can help if your knees are sensitive.
How do online classes work?
Book online in the same way as any other class, then join from home at the class time. You will be sent the details for joining. Find a clear patch of floor about the size of your mat, with room to stretch your arms out.
I have an injury or a health condition. Is that a problem?
Not usually, but please tell us before the class so we can suggest options. If you are pregnant, recovering from surgery or have a condition you are unsure about, check with your GP or midwife first.
Do I need to book?
Please do. Booking holds your place on the mat, and it tells us how many people to expect. You can book online in a minute.
Ready to roll out your mat?
Book a class online, then pay with a pass or for a single class.
